hebrew secondary styles

dear typophiles,
i write my ‘reading dissertation’ about hebrew secondary styles. now i am looking for hebrew type designs that create a set of styles (through structural change and within the same weight). i know about ismar david’s david (and linotype’s david hadash), henri friedlaender’s (unreleased) attempt of hadassah cursive and ben nathan’s days and nights. does one of you happen to know other examples / attempts that try to create a complementing style for highlighting within texts for continuous reading ?
many thanks in advance, nicole

Opinions on the MS Gisha types?

A client is looking for feedback Microsoft's Gisha, which has shipped with Windows since Vista. They're particularly interested to know whether this design is popular at all, especially in Israel, and whether the design has any flaws that might affect its popularity. I told them I would ask here, and also contact some colleagues in Israel, since I don't have direct knowledge of how widely, or not, the font might be used there. General comments on the style of the design, on specific letter shapes, or on technical aspects of the fonts are all welcome. Thanks.

I've already inquired here about the identity of this Hebrew font:

I've seen it before in this form:

Does anyone know how I can create a fully-working Unicode Hebrew font (complete with proper nikkud alignment) from this?

Does there exist a Hebrew typeface in the uncial/Irish/Lord of the Rings style?

I think the subject is self-explanatory. I have been attempting that style for some time in calligraphy, and would really enjoy seeing one in Hebrew. I looked for some time and did not quite find what I was looking for. Even the typeface on "The Hobbit" poster in Hebrew wasn't quite what I was looking for.

So far, (http://www.cjstones.com/prod_images/lettering/HebrewScript.jpg) is the closest thing I have found. Of course, I would add some dots for embellishment to make it more like what most of us are familiar with.

תודה רבה!

So I think this should follow from the title. I looked on Wikipedia and saw it called "Gaelic Type" as well. I am hoping that someone has already made this so I don't have to do it myself!

It seems like the Hebrew script would be this quite well, not just because it shares the fact that there are no capital letters. Do you know that font that is over all of the Irish pubs across the world? That is what I am thinking (with the option to add in dots or flourishes).

Something like

I'm not referring to the 'sword' typeface used in The Hobbit movie. The closest thing I found was on someone's engraving service.

Unicode Hebrew fonts with interesting ligatures

$

Over at the Open Siddur Project, we've received a handful of requests for Unicode Hebrew fonts with interesting ligatures that I've seen in print but never before in a digital (Unicode) font.

The first is a bowing lamed. The second is a letter hey wherein the divine name אדוני (adonai, lit. lord/master) is spelled.

Has anyone seen a Unicode font with such ligatures? I'd also be interested in learning about Hebrew fonts supporting other unusual ligatures (in the private use area, I imagine).

Thank you.

Best (and worst) Hebrew fonts for people with Dyslexia

I was reading about this great open source project to develop a Latin font suitable for people with Dyslexia, OpenDyslexic. I began to wonder about the experience of Hebrew readers with Dyselxia. What is the best font? What is the worst font?

If there are no good fonts yet designed for Hebrew readers, this would seem to me a great challenge whereby Hebrew typographers could collaborate with one another and with the larger community in designing a better font. The GPL+Font Exception seems like the right license to facilitate such collaboration.

I'd love to learn what anyone knows about Dyslexia and Hebrew reading.

Hebrew Pair for Poetica?

I'm looking for a Hebrew typeface to pair with Poetica. I know this may be hard since it's a chancery italic but I was hoping one of you guys may have an idea. Below is a sample for your reference.

Side discussion: Did anything ever happen with Eric Gill's Hebrew typeface? Has it been digitized? I read on a blog it has been but was unable to find a version of it.

Hey,
It seems to me that Hebrew is the most geometric font in the world, followed by Latin. How so?
(1) Well, we know that Aleph is composed of two Yuds - one high and one low. If we join them using a horizontal
rather than a diagonal we get a wind handle. Then reversing we get Lamed. I.e. Lamed=-Aleph
Similarly, (2) Daled is not really a door but a detonation handle - hence Delet=hole in wall="Delete". I.e. the hole in the concept of Daled is not in the innards of the letter

Hello,
Recently I've seen some examples of יהוה in Biblical text with אדני written under the final ה. Does anyone know of a font set with this as a set character perhaps similar to the Arabic الله?

I am looking everywhere for vector images of the full Hebrew alphabet in ornamental woodcut style lettering similar to the first words of seforim printed by the Soncino family. Any ideas where I could find something like this?
